Katarzyna Osińska-Skotak, PhD, D.Sc., is a graduate of the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography (spec. photogrammetry and cartography) and the Faculty of Environmental Engineering (spec. atmospheric protection and meteorology) at the Warsaw University of Technology. In 2001 she received a PhD degree, and in 2011 a D.Sc. degree in photogrammetry and remote sensing from the Warsaw University of Technology. Since 2012 she is a head of the Department of Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Systems at the Warsaw University of Technology. She conducts research related to advanced remote sensing techniques and spatial information systems, in particular in the field of their use in environmental studies (including inland water quality determination, urban heat island phenomenon), in spatial planning and archeology, as well as the development of tools for remote sensing data processing, among others the ones aimed at monitoring changes in the environment and the relationships between its different components. Her research interests include the applications of thermal, multi- and hyperspectral remote sensing techniques in environmental und urban monitoring. She has an extensive experience in the field of satellite image processing (including multi-, super- and hyperspectral and thermal data), methods of radiometric and atmospheric correction, has developed the atmospheric correction method based on single-channel thermal images, the method for calculating the surface temperature based on single-channel thermal images, and the methodology of processing superspectral images to assess the inland water quality. She is an author or co-author of over 100 scientific publications. She carried out research in 28 national and international scientific and R&D projects, including 10 in which she was a project manager, or WUT’s research team coordinator. She was also a manager of a several expert studies. She took part in several medium-term scientific internships, including the ones in Belgium at the University of Gent, in France at GDTA in Toulouse, in Germany at the University of Freiburg and at the German Space Center in Oberpfaffenhofen/Munich, as well as at KTH in Sweden. She is a scholarship holder of the Nowicki Foundation and the German Foundation for Environmental Protection (DBU). She was a supervisor of nearly 160 diploma theses. She supervised three PhDs, was a reviewer of two habilitation theses and five PhD dissertations. She is a regular reviewer in JCR journals. In the years 2014-2018 she was a member of the Space Techniques Platform established by the Rector of Warsaw University of Technology. From 2019, she is the Vice-President of the Team for the evaluation of diploma theses, doctoral and habilitation theses, publications and innovative solutions in the field of geoinformation in the Award of the Minister of Investment and Development. She is also a member of the Committee on Space and Satellite Research at the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences (2019-2022), secretary of the Remote Sensing Section of the Committee on Space and Satellite Research at the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences (2019-2022), member of the Team for the European Earth Observation Program Copernicus of the Committee on Space and Satellite Research at the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences (2019-2022), member and secretary of the Committee on Geodesy of the Polish Academy of Sciences (2020-2023), member of the Board of the Chapter of Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics of the Polish Geographical Society (from 2015). She was awarded the Silver Cross of Merit (2011), and the Medal of the National Education Commission (2015). Additionally she is a science popularizer – initiator of the Remote Sensing Day, and the Science in the Service of the Earth, coordinator of the Science Festival at the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography of the Warsaw University of Technology. Honorary member of the Association of Students of the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography of the Warsaw University of Technology "GEOIDA".
